Anne and Kristin will be in chilly Minneapolis from January 2-5 soaking up linguistics. Visit the Wiley-Blackwell booth at the book exhibit to peruse (and purchase - at a discount!) Navigating English Grammar.
And visit with them at the American Dialect Society's BYOB(ook) Reception, cosponsored by Duke University Press, publisher of the ADS's American Speech. Navigating English Grammar will be on display right after the Friday voting on Words of the Year, 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.
We look forward to seeing you!
The inquiry-based approach employed by Lobeck and Denham encourages readers to discover the basic categories and organizing principles of grammar by exploring their own intuitive knowledge of language. Rather than rule memorization, focus is on development of a set of tools to analyze language in its many representations. Throughout, the authors highlight how grammatical rules change over time, how they vary across speech communities, and how oral language differs from written language.
